Hi Bob, Lawrie and others,
The lists presented on this website represent an admirable amount of work! I
had a closer look at some of the countries that I am familiar with to get
some indication if it would be useful elsewhere. Firstly, not only are the
lists frustratingly alphabetical, but the order is based on the species
name! So Black-browed Albatross is under "B" and not "A"! With common name
changes the order of the day in many parts of the world, this renders the
lists almost useless for many purposes as it is very difficult/impossible to
look up birds. While largely correct, the South African list was not quite
complete, and had at least one species on it that has never been recorded in
the region.
