I do not wish to enter into the debate about banding except to say that Frank O'Connor suggested a literature search at a library. Some of the subscribers to Birding-aus may have difficulty accessing a library but must have access to the Internet. A simple search on 'bird banding' using Google listed many sites which had full details of the results (and failures in some cases) of banding. I fail to see that "It is almost impossible to find results that assist us to quote definitive statistics of where, when and how many birds of what species have been banded and flagged to enable some reasonable scrutiny of this activity.". There appears to be a great deal of those "definitive statistics".
