Watch out for the gum eaters!
"The Outback" is generally considered to be associated with arid areas
having unreliable rainfall and little agricultural development except
for grazing. For the purposes of the proposed twitchathon, perhaps we
should consider supporting the concept that areas below say 250 mm.
annual rainfall could be regarded as "the outback".
Otherwise some of our more enterprising eastern neighbours (i.e. "the
gum eaters) might try to include the rain forests of Iron Range into
their outback twitch. And similarly, there is probably good reason to
maintain state boundaries for the purpose of an outback twitchathon.
Of course the notion of dropping State boundaries for a proposed
(unrestricted) national twitchathon class has plenty of merit.
