Sorry to be pedantic Tony but the references you have supplied below are not AMGs The top two are both latitude and longitude supplied in GDA (or WGS84) and AGD. AMG (Australian Map Grid) is a reading based on a kilometre grid, and is similar (but probably not the same) as the UTM figures supplied.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi,
For those of you still unable to find, or who are totally dissatisfied with
squinting at, the poorly coloured Painted Snipe specimen at Banyule, there
are at least two, a beaut female and an equally nice but not so brightly
coloured male, and possibly a second female, at Kaurna Park just north of
Salisbury in South Aust. ( first found and reported by Ian May 10/12/01)

For those technically minded folk the fixes are: (pick your favourite
system )

WGS 84 34 44 13s, 138 36 13e or 34 73694444444s , 138.6e

AMG 34 44 10.0736s , 138 35 55.1353e or 34.7361315581699s,
138.598648718284e

UTM N 54 280148.056, E 13846421.0 or N 54
280274.748 E 13846494.9

How's that for keeping locations secret ! (FNQ birdos please note)

So, what are you sitting there for ? The birds are only about 20m out from
the levee bank alongside the highway. Off your bots and come and and see
some proper Painteds.

Tony. ( we need your tourist dollars, or yens, or quids or
whatever).

ps: my thanks to whoever it was who sent me an understandable and
super-usable grid reference conversion spreadsheet other than that Redfearn
monster.
