g'day all,
Today after a long absence, I visited Lake Mary Kathleen
(31km east of Mount Isa on the East Leichhardt
River)
I was only able to access a limited number of locations around
the lake plus the reed beds below the dam wall.
Total number of species recorded was 52, but did
include...
... Baillon's Crake ( in the
reed beds below the dam wall)
... Green Pygmy-goose (a pair of
birds)
... Silver-crowned Friarbird
All these species are at the limit of their territory.
I observed at least 2 pairs of Common Koels (my first
sighting for this season) plus a number of Dollarbirds which
only arrived at the Isa a week ago.
There was another reed inhabitant that was very timid and
disappeared before I had a chance to identify it.
Regards, Bob Forsyth, Mount Isa, NW Qld.
