Hi Paul
You just were blind before getting the Swarovskis to help you out!
But seriously I suppose you could be right about BB Rail. I saw one at Apollo
Bay recently, and there are only 2-3 previous records for that Otway coast.
They're thick on the ground at Bendigo sewage farm as Chris & you have found
out. I've seen a few others I can't quite recall locations for too. Perhaps
they're just responding to habitat changes which are in their favour. My
feeling
recently is that the ones I've seen are much less timid than I recall from the
past. Maybe existing birds are becoming habituated to observers???
In the first 5 years I spent birding from the late 70s, the BB Rail was
something
of a bogey bird for me. I couldn't find one no matter how much I tried. After
seeing my first one on the footpath outside a milk bar in Dunolly (central Vic),
it all became much easier!
Garbled ramblings .....
Lawrie
