Laurie, How right you are.Lantana has to be the best Aussie movie for years. Unfortunately I don't think it will become Oscar material as it doesn't fit the stereotypical Hollywood formulae-- it's far too well written, well acted, and engaging. See it before it disappears from a silver screen near you!! As for the bird sounds, I could hear Southern Boobook and Masked Lapwing in night scenes, Pied Currawong also.Careful though, you'll literally lose the plot if you concentrate too hard on the birds. Got my best-ever sighting of a Satin Flycatcher (female) at Rainbow Beach last weekend.The breast colouration is a lovely blend of pale rufous and apricot/buff, very subtle and appealing to my non-artistic eye.
