Hi Desley
I had the experience of a female Red-winged Parrot doing the same in the
garage of our previous home.
I can only assume that the bird was trying to fly towards the light coming
through the Whirlybird. Luckily in this instance I was able to save the
bird. I have noticed on several occasions that trapped birds will fly up
when there is a possible escape route by flying down. I have seen this
under verandas, in garages and when birds occasionally find their way into a
house. Butterflies have the same problem.

To a man, ornithologists are tall, slender, and bearded so that
they can stand motionless for hours, imitating kindly trees, as
they watch for birds.
