According to an article in The Age on 18 October, Dr Booth
has won her legal action to stop the electrocution of
Spectacled Flying-foxes by a lychee farmer - because of its
impact on the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Well done !
Also another article - on 6 October - about the Grey-headed
Flying Foxes in central Melbourne - reported the Victorian
Minister for the Environment as saying "The bats are here to
stay."
The authorities are trying to attract them to a site away
from the Botanic Gardens but it seems that the culling has
failed to stop the bats arriving. I haven't heard anything
about the Federal government's response to the slaughter of
an endangered animal.
