Black-tailed native hens everywhere! For the first time ever I saw a single black-tailed native hen yesterday on the grassy verge near the road behind the La Trobe University Wildlife reserve. In the reserve itself there are gang-gang cockatoos apparently nesting there for the first time in yonks. Also reports -- although I did not see it -- of a barking owl both in the reserve and in the housing estate behind it. Numerous sightings and heard calling. Also crested pigeons in the area around the reserve -- a new bird here. Cheers Harry Clarke.
