Hi All,
I've been cycling to work recently, from Northcote to Prahran. Generally I ride
along the Yarra, starting at Yarra Bend and coming out at Chapel Street. The
ride takes about 40 minutes. Seen commonly are Red-rumped Parrot, White Browed
Scrubwren and Wood Duck (nesting and angry!), Red Browed Finch - also the
cuckoo's and oriole have returned. Over the last fews days I have seen:
Great Egret - currently a resident of the Yarra near Melbourne High. Extremely
close to the city!
Darter - at Dights Falls and on Herring Island.
Boobook - heard at night (while riding home) opposite the hospital on Yarra Bend
New Holland Honeyeater - Iron Bark Yarra Bend/Merri Creek near Dykes Falls
Yellow (Little) Thornbill - (as above) in the Iron Bark along Merri Creek near
Dykes Falls
Dusky Woodswallow - above the hillside at the community farm
Peregrine Falcon - literally cruising down Chapel Street (like a stealth
bomber!). Almost certainly nesting on Chapel St itself.
A nice way to spend the morning and afternoon.
