Hi all! Been away for 4 weeks in WA , absolutely fantastic. Trip of a lifetime etc, but I'll catch up with that later. Went for a walk on our property today and in one Lantana bush there were three male wrens all different species! Stunning! Superb Fairy-Wren, Variegated Fairy-Wren, and Red-backed Fairy-Wren with orange instead of red. New bird for our place. Whilst in WA we saw several "crimson " backed Race cruentatus, and I have seen several Red-backed forms in the past but never on our property. I think Dungog is about the southern most limit for the Red-backs, correct me if I am wrong. The orange was absolutely brilliant. Is this common to see??
