There have been a few stories about crippling views of Australasian Bitterns
in Victoria over the last month or so - I had mine yesterday.

I was driving from Torquay to Geelong via Breamlea in Victoria. Near Bancoora
Beach I noticed an egret in the saltmarsh and turned down there for a closer
look. As I pulled up the (Great) egret took off and flew about 10-15m - landing
almost on top of an Australasian Bittern about 20m from my car! The bittern
fluffed up & saw the egret off, and then resumed foraging in the open in about
10cm high saltmarsh. Extraordinary!! It was later afternoon, but still bright
and sunny, so I had excellent views.

Cheers -- Lawrie
