Dear Kingfisher watchers We thought all the Sacred Kingfishers had left our campus here in PNG a week ago (some left 3 weeks ago) and made for Australian pastures. But we were wrong: we saw one this morning - alive and well. A week and a half ago an injured SKF was brought to me (looked like a victim of a shanhai) and he flew off next day, though I think he would need a fortnight to heal his bruised wing muscles and tendons. So expect some late arrivals down there. Incidently their numbers appeared to be higher than normal this year and some have had trouble putting on weight in order to make it across the Coral Sea. Cheers & happy bird watching. Mike ==========
