I've been out and about a bit lately, and though Pallid Cuckoos are much in
evidence, and Horsfield's and Shining Bronze-cuckoos too, I've
hardly come across
a single Fan-tailed Cuckoo in central and eastern Victoria.
Anyone else having this experience, or have I gone selectively deaf?
I have a friend in audiology at Melbourne Uni - do you want a referral?
Last week all the Fan-tailed Cuckoos were at Ocean Grove Nature
Reserve (3 K north of Ocean Grove, Vic). I saw several, including a
big juvenile, and heard many more. There were also quite a few
pallids and Shining-bronzes. The other highlights included 3
Blue-winged parrots, very vocal male Rufous Whistlers, and a Collared
Sparrowhawk. For those interested here is my list. It is in the
order I saw them because I'm too stingy to buy BirdInfo or
WorldBirder Plus.
If someone could give me the coords I'd be grateful because my GPS
batteries were flat.
