Red-whiskered Bulbuls were deliberately released in Mackay, Queensland some
years back (I don't have exact details), apparently to prevent DPI officers
confiscating and destroying them. I saw them on 21 August 1994, in the
garden of a house adjacent to the Bruce Highway, about 1km north of the
Lagoon reserve, and in East Mackay on 19 November 1997. I believe they were
present long before that. I don't know what effect (if any) they are having
on native species.
