Thanks for the information. While I was thinking of a couple of
anecdotes passed on about releasing budgies, this is interesting. The
other main reason I asked was the sheer number of Common Mynas residing on
University of Sydney. Living in Manly myself, I can understand that some
problems might be caused by releases in New Zealand, but I think their
decision to try the bird markets instead of killing them was a sensible
one. The main problem with releasing the birds is that, without thinking a
bit about the effects on the local populations, it seems like a very kind
thing to do.
