Kuranda and Cairns area sightings:
Lots of Olive -backed Orioles around Cassowary
House, where it is not common- they seem to be
immatures.
Three Grey Teal on the mud at Cairns esplanade
Sept 15 were in rather odd site.
A Masked Booby immature and a single Black Noddy,
also single Great and Lesser Frigatebirds and a
Roseate Tern were on Michaelmas Cay off Cairns on
Sept. 10. A Sanderling was also there plus a few
Turnstones.
Pacific Bazas are reappearing, heard along Black
Mountain Road on Sept 13 and by the house on Sept
10. There is a definite movement of them in this
area at this time of year.
First Dollarbird was Sept 11. No Koels or
Channel-bills as yet and Black-faced Monarch is
still not around here.
The male Cassowary at Cassowary House now has
three lovely stripey juveniles following him,
first seen in late August and now appearing
almost daily. The male some 3km down the road from
us has 4 chicks too, great news.
Good birding
