Hi all,

had a short visit to McGraths Hill STW yesterday 15/8 (western Sydney) & flushed a single Lathams Snipe from the edge of one of main pond near to the road. A beautiful day weatherwise, it seemed the birds thought is was spring too, as Skylarks & Clamorous Reed Warblers were in full song. There must of been dozens of Little Grassbirds mournfully whistling in each of the well-vegetated ponds & a single Chestnut-breasted Mannikin was tinkling away.

Other birds of note included an Olive-backed Oriole & a pair of Peregrines.

A friend also mentioned that an (early?) Koel was heard yesterday in the Jannali area, south of Sydney.

Cheers

However, I heard from someone, that they often arrive around the first full moon of August, which I think was at the beginning of this month.
