The first songs start in the second week of August, and right on cue this morning I heard my first Blackbird song" In Dubbo, central western NSW I heard this season's first English Blackbird calling yesterday evening about 5.30pm. Clear and sweet - that song causes me to forgive the Blackbird for many things. This morning it's singing beautifully, and has been since first light.
