Currently in Sydney Tandy has 8x21 binoculars on sale for $30 - supposedly
reduced from $70.  I don't know if this sale is on elsewhere.

I bought a pair yesterday for my 6 year old son to use birdwatching
with me.

The body is metal with rubber coasting and seems fairly robust.
The optics seem OK too - although my testing consisted only walking
outside and looking at some bulbuls with them.  The box indicates they
are made in China for Tandy.

They are quite compact - so if you need a cheap spare pair of binoculars
for a trip or the glovebox, they might be suitable.
