Judging from the number of threads on this topic
over the years there seem to be quite a few Birding-aussers who, like me, use
the BirdBase listing software from Santa Barbara Software Products.
I recently learned that a US birder, Peter
Bono, has produced a very useful adjunct program (TRIPREPORT) for
re-processing BirdBase output files to produce attractive reports
(allowing a choice of font styles and sizes, elimination of repetition
of species names, full country or state names if desired (rather than
codes) etc. The program also collates useful statistical
information, including lists by country or state of numbers of species seen
(total or first), tabulation of frequency of sighting of a species by country
etc. He has also produced a program (SHORTLIST)
which make possible the use of multiple "shortlists" in conjunction with
Birdbase, making it possible to interchange
world, Australian, state, local, backyard or any other
species lists, which can facilitate data entry.
I have tried the programs and found them very
useful. After corresponding with me, Peter has recently modified the programs to
allow use of the dd--mm-yyyy date format, making them more convenient for
Australian users. He is keen to get feedback and ideas from other users for use
in future modifications.
Peter will be away from 10th August - 9th
September. Anyone wanting a copy outside those dates or close to them can obtain
the zip files from me. They are available as shareware on the basis,
that if you decide to use then after trying them, a small payment should be
made to Peter. His e-mail is .
