A couple of comments on Denise's recent email. I've just returned
from out of town, so there may appear some delay to this
response. Sorry about that.
1. Lots of Gouldian Finches around the Top End at the moment.
James Watson and I saw about 200 or so at one site this morning.
We also had smaller numbers (30-50) in several places around the
Top End this week and a few weeks ago.
2. Also lots of Grey Falcons apparently. James and I had one
perched in a tree along the Victoria Highway on Saturday. We
viewed it from about 15m or so and took photos. Also, in the
general region (but seen 4 days later when we were returning east)
we saw a VERY pale Brown Falcon, that some could have taken
for a Grey! Rings a note of caution, especially for those who may
be quick to jump to an optimistic identification : )
3. Hilary gave me a copy of his annotated list many years ago, to
comment on, and to use as I required. My copy is not illegal,
therefore Denise's statement is inaccurate!! Nothing of my copy
has seen the light of day outside my study, so I expect Denise is
NOT accusing me of plagiarism, and WILL SAY SO on this forum.
In fact though, Denise has put practically every Top End birder
under suspicion of theft and plagiarism, so she should clear the air,
or there may be some irate and offended people around. By the
way, I have heard of noone passing on or publishing info from the
manuscript, except HANZAB, and I presumed they sourced it
properly. I felt when I noticed the references in HANZAB that they
were silly to quote before the manuscript was completely finished
and fully refereed.

Happy birding today
