There is also a record of a Striated Fieldwren at Mountain Lagoon (west of
Sydney) in Feb.1979 (see the book "Fauna of the Blue Mountains" by J & P
Smith) and there may be suitable habitat elsewhere in the Blue Mountains
where they may occur. Bruce has certainly marked some of the birds
characteristics which go in favour of the fieldwren. Striated Fieldwrens
do occupy a number of habitats, and I have seen them calling amongst
concrete rubble and grassland at Altona (near Melbourne). Further to the
south of Sydney, there is also good habitat for them in the Royal NP and
adjoining areas within the limits of the Sydney region. The typical call of
Striated Fieldwrens should not be confused to the plain notes of the Little
Grassbird's "pee..pee..pee".
