2002 Explorer Advertising Is For The Birds
DETROIT, June 18, 2001 - Advertising for the all-new 2002 Ford Explorer is
for the birds. Ford Motor Company has unveiled a unique experiential outdoor
"Bird-Board" downtown at Hart Plaza.
Unlike traditional outdoor billboards, the "Bird-Board" is a mobile,
interactive, and experiential bird feeder. The two-sided moveable trailer
will rely on hungry birds to reveal a message introducing the all-new 2002
Ford Explorer.
"Only the world's largest mobile bird feeder could effectively promote the
world's best-selling SUV," said Jim O'Connor, Ford Division president. "The
Explorer customer is all about collecting new experiences. The 'Bird-Board'
itself offers just that - a unique bird-watching experience brought to life
by the all-new Ford Explorer."
The "Bird-Board" on display downtown is one of two boards visiting cities
around the United States. During the past two months, the boards have been
on display in New York, Dallas and Chicago.
When arriving at each selected location, the "Bird-Board" is filled with
birdseed. As the birds eat their fill, a message will slowly be revealed to
passers-by. When empty, the board reads, "This bird-watching experience
brought to you by the all-new Explorer 02." Created by J. Walter Thompson,
Detroit and Impatto Events Group, the 20-by-10-foot board stands 16.5 feet
from the ground and holds up to 1,200 pounds of birdseed.
