Hi All,
Just a quick note on the movements of yellow-tailed Black
Cockatoos at my field study quarters in Newtown, Geelong, Vic
(app. 70 kms east of Melbourne).
In the last 10 days or so large flocks have been present. One flock
of at least 180 birds was flying east along the Barwon River on the
19th June. Several of the 'tiers' of the flock were obscured by
houses so I suspect this flock to have been in the vicinity of 210-
220 birds, easily the biggest I've ever seen and very spectacular!
27/6 Flock of 125 flew over Newtown again heading east.
29/6 Another flock of about 80 birds heading in the same direction,
prompting me again to send this in, perhaps they lay off a bit now!
Also lots of gang-gangs around lately, as well as the ever present
Sulpher-cresteds. Also lots of large Currawong flocks too. The
seasons are a changing as the saying goes.
Happy birding, keep checking those brown falcon legs for bands!
