Updated 25.6.01 with several local rarities reported this week.
A Spotted Nightjar was seen very well at the H1 Wetlands on Captain Cook
Drive opposite the Cronulla Golf Driving Range on the evening of the 23rd
but could not be relocated the following evening.
A single Gull-billed Tern was at Penrhyn Road, Port Botany today. It was in
non-breeding plumage.
A dead Noisy Pitta was found in the Royal Botanic Gardens this week.
Two Spine-tailed Logrunners were next to Karani Brook on Lady Carrington
Drive, Royal National Park on the 23rd.
A winter flock of 300 Hardheads are present in Centennial Park. A male
Rufous Whistler at Scheyville and a single Fairy Martin at McGrath's Hill
were overwintering migrants. Little Penguins were present al week at Berry's
Bay near North Sydney. Pink-eared Ducks and Shovelers are present at
McGrath's Hill. Rose Robin and Weebills were at Stannix Park on the 20th. A
Brown Honeyeater was 20 km E of Griffith in late May and a Spotted Bowerbird
was 15 km NW of Griffith this week. A Pacific Heron spent a couple of days
in Epping with many urban reports of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos including
North Sydney and Centennial Park.
