gang gangs

On Tuesday drove along Bell St, well into Preston, to purchase some second hand roof tiles at a place at no 2 Bell St. This place was adjacent to a creekline. On the other side, on telegraph wires, was a group of around 4 gang gang cockatoos.
 
Why are they in the suburbs, and yet I can't see them in hometown Gisborne?
