I'd never been to Kooralbyn [halfway between Beaudesert and Rathdowny]
before, so decided to pop down to have a gekko for a change.

Kooralbyn is a bit of a resort with golf course etc and nearby schools,
colleges and real estate development [nice views of Mt Barney from the
relatively high scenic lookout].

I spent most time in the vicinity of Boomerang Lake - 43 species in the
500m zone. Waterfowl were the feature birds, with the odd pink-eared
and blue-billed ducks in amongst the flotillas of grey teal, hard heads,
PB and maned ducks. There were superb and RB fairy wrens in their
breeding plumage, the odd grassbird, dotteral and stilt and a goshawk
being mobbed by the crows.

I went for a drive up Knapps Ck Rd - past a polo match being played in a
roadside paddock and into some clapped out grazing country. Found a
rose robin at a spot rejoicing in the name of spring gully and had a
pair of dark choclate coloured falcons soar through another atlas site
[at the end of the bitumen].

I stopped to survey a roadside wetland not far from Laravale - mainly
because a swamp harrier was down at the edge of the water. The lake
contained the usual suspects, with the addition of an Aus shoveller
[giving a total of 7 duck species for the day in an area I hadn't
thought of as duck territory].

Regards, Laurie.
