Dear Roy
Thought someone else might know more about this than I, but since I've not
seen an answer yet to your query, can give you a few details of Blue-winged
Kookaburras in SEQ in the past.
For some years they were nesting regularly in a group of eucalypts by the
Brisbane River in an area now covered with Wivenhoe dam water.
QOS newsletters had the following sightings:
July 1971, p.6: 1 at Inala. Glen Ingram
May 1972,p.3: 1 at Fernvale. G.Beruldsen
July 1975 p.3: near Lake Clarendon. G.Leach & D.Watson.
Nov 1976, p.1: 4 pairs, nesting near bridge at Northbrook
Nov 1978, p.2: 2 at Wyvenhoe Pocket;
6 near Northbrook;
4 near Briden, Brisbane River. G. Beruldsen.
Oct 1979, p.4: 6 at Northbrook, nesting. G. Beruldsen.
Jan 1982, p.5: resident at Breslow. G.Leach (don't know where Breslow is).
Sorry, 1982 is as far as my records go. Hope that helps a bit.

Greetings all
I am trying to get a handle on the distribution of Blue-winged Kookaburras
in SE Q'ld, or south of Rockhampton even. All of the Field Guides show them
down at least as far as the NSW border but I wonder about this. I have
never seen any south of the Tropic despite many years 'in the bush' and
birdwatching. I know that there were some in the Lockyer Valley at some
stage.
Has anyone seen these birds in SE Q'ld and when was the sighting?
Cheers
Roy Sonnenburg
