Dear Birding-ausers,
I have an enquiry from a person in the Condobolin
NSW area regarding local bird sightings and birders' needs for that area.
(Condobolin is about 100ks west of Parkes.)
Lachlan Shire is setting up a new Tourist
Information Centre, and they are very keen to 1] encourage birders to that area,
and 2] establish a list of the area's birds.
The region takes in Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo,
Lake Cowal, Albert & Tottenham, (plus other towns I can't remember). Part of
the strategy to encourage more birders to visit the area will be to set up hides
etc in "good birding places" but no-one there really knows where these are, or
how to make a hide. The Centre would like to hand out local bird lists too, but
again, no one local knows what the region's birds are, just that there are
some "special" birds about!
If anyone can help with lists of birds from trips
through that area, info about good birding sites, or if anyone has ideas about
how to set up hides, where to set them up... or if you have any ideas about what
Lachlan Shire could do to entice YOU there for a birding holiday, please reply
direct to the enquirer:
Mrs Andrea Webb, on or by
calling 02 6895 7601, or 02 6895 7607
Any information you can give towards making this
Shire project a success will ultimately help birds in that area, as raising the
profile of birding as a tourist drawcard can help to save or re-establish bird
habitat.
Regards, Judie Peet
(The only thing certain about bird watching is that
nothing's certain!)
