Hi All.
Yesterday I spent a windy 2 hours on the south side of Narrabeen Lagoon on
Sydney's northern beaches. The birds were fairly quiet due to the wind and
time of day [mid afternoon] however I managed to see 31 species, all pretty
ordinary except for 2 Striated Heron and a Pied Oystercatcher on the sandbar
off the mouth of South Creek.
This was only my second sighting of P/O on the lagoon, the previous was in
October 1996 at almost the same spot. These are the only occasions I have
recorded P/O on the northern beaches. Sooties on the other hand are fairly
regular particularly at Long Reef.
I tried my hardest to turn it into a SIPO but just lacked the necessary
creative flair!
Happy birding, Bruce.
