I just got to see volume 6 of the Handbook of the Birds of the World. The photography and commentary seem to me superb -- it covers mousebirds, trogons, kingfishers, rollers, hornbills..... The

photography is explanatory and insightful - more than just 'portraits'. The articles are interesting to read.

Birding-Ausers might want to look at this.

The series now looks like it will be extended to 16 volumes in all.
