On Sunday we took the LandRover out on a LROCV outing to the Mt.
Disappointment area. This was not a birding trip but of course I took
binoculars. From the firebreak track on the summit of Mt.
Disappointment, I saw 3 or 4 Whitethroated Needletails as we arrived-
they were moving westward at an altitude below the top of the mountain.
This would have been about 12.30 (Eastern Summer Time).
On our way up, as we passed Towt's Swamp on the Whittlesea-Wallan Road,
we noticed both Yellowbilled and Royal Spoonbills.
At a wetland in the grounds of Yan Yean Reservoir, as well as a great
many Swamphens, Dusky Moorhens and Wood Ducks on the grass, I am sure I
saw a single Black-tailed Native Hen with bright red legs and cocked-up
tail as we drove through. Has anyone else seen it or shall I have to
drive back there in hopes of confirming it?
