Hi Frank,
Water Hyacinth was the floating weed choking Lake Victoria but
controlled by a specific weevil. The researchers responsible for introducing
the weevil were
Australians, the weevil from South America. I have a vague feeling that it
may have been tried in Australia, Water Hyacinth is a problem in Qld.
Perhaps Salvinia has its own specific weevil?
                                             Cheers
                                                   Michael
