Birdline Victoria Update for the week ending 12/2/01

A good week this week, although there have been no major rarities, some good birds are turning up, just right for watching.

The House Crow has not been seen since the 28th of January and the Lesser Yellowlegs at Werribee seems long gone. However while people where looking for each of these birds they managed to see a Black Falcon at each of these sites!


11 February
5 White-headed Petrel of Port Fairy on the Pelagic Trip, thanks Mike Carter

10 February
4 Satin Flycatchers, near the Western edge of their range, were seen at the Ralph Illedge Reserve, near Warrnambool, thanks Mike Carter/

10 February
A Spotless Crake at the Floating Island Nature Reserve, west of Colac.
38 20' 56"S 143 23' 55"E, thanks Steve Clark

10 February
A Powerful Owl at Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, Blackburn Lake.  About 5 metres west of a point on Lakeside Circuit, about 20 metres north of is junction with Wattle Walk, thanks Paul Peake

4 February
A single Glossy Ibis  approximately 1 km along the Daylesford - Newstead Road from the Daylesford end (i.e. 1 km from the Midland Highway), thanks Bob & Sadhana Cook.

3 February
12 Baillon's Crake in the northern section of the Edithvale Wetlands, thanks Mike Carter.

1 February
A Black Falcon near the Nobbies on Phillip Island, thanks Laurie Living.

Early February
Spotless Crakes, Baillon's Crakes, Lewin's Rails and Latham's Snipe can all be seen at the pond in the middle of Peterborough, thanks Mike Carter.

Early February
A possible pair of Hooded Robins at Banyule Flat in Rosanna, thanks Richard Loyn.

Late January
A Superb Parrot at Braeside Wetlands, in the heath section, probable escapee, thanks Chris Timewell.

10 January
A pair of Yellow Rosellas at Edithvale South Wetland (right down the far southern end) flying, then perched and feeding in some eucalypts, probable escapees, thanks Chris Tzaros.
