Hi everybody -

We have received a couple of enquiries regarding a bizarrely coloured (sort
of magenta) Silver Gull seen in Victor Harbour, South Australia. The
colouring extends all over the bird except for the head. The Australian
Bird and Bat Banding Scheme have no knowledge of any current marking
program that could account for this. Possibly the gull somehow did it to
itself (while scavenging at a dye factory?) or possibly someone is having a
bit of fun trying to brighten up the birding scene in VH. However, if
there is some kind of research going on, we would be interested in hearing
about it.

Cheers,
Hugo
