Lawrie, I too checked all the top line scopes and chose the Kowa TSN-823. I chose the Kowa for the bright, sharp optics and reasonably light weight. However whilst to my eye it was a good as the others or better, now I attach a camera to my scope giving me an 800mm lens I wish I had bought the Leica. The latest craze on Birds-pix is a Leica scope and a 20x eyepiece with a Nikon Coolpix 990 pressed against the scope. The shots that are published are amazing. For perfect optics I would consider the Leica. You only want to spend this much dough once!
