Anyone who enjoys a really raucous morning could float their canoe on
Sugarloaf Bay, Upper Middle Harbour, Sydney, 6 km north of the Harbour
Bridge, where four Channel Billed Cuckoos are in current residence
(presumably two pairs, based on the north and south sides of the bay
respectively). We noticed yesterday that if one pair began a chorus, the
other pair would fly across the bay to join in. Quite a racket! Best
(worst?) performances around 7 - 10 am.

Plurals? "A cacophony of cuckoos"?

Koels have not been heard here (Castlecrag northern escarpment) for the last
three days, after a spring season of 24-hour solos. When do they usually
cease calling in Sydney?

Cheers,

Lorraine

Richard,
            Have learned my lesson.
Since complaining about the Quail, a Brush Cuckoo, Fan-tailed
Cuckoo, and worst of all a neighbours' Peacock are in on the act, and I
can't even complain to Council about the noise.
                                         Shrill Cheers
                                                 Michael
