Dear birders,
On the subject of noisy Koels, the last couple of days a pair have woken me
around 6.30-7 am flying fast up shrieking, and down the back lane behind my
house, pursued by the resident Noisy Miners, Red Wattlebirds and Pied
Currawongs, not to mention panic in the feral pigeons and Rainbow Lorikeet
population. This morning they paused on the neighbour's televiison aerial,
shrieked and bobbed tails before departing swiftly with retinue of Noisy
Miners.
And in the far distance on Monday 6.15 am, I assume on the University of
Sydney campus, the raucous calls of a Channel-billed Cuckoo - maybe I am
lucky that is not just outside my window although if it was I would be out
of bed in a flash to have a look.
I find this a great thrill in the centre of a modern city! To be woken by
Koels instead of trucks, who could ask for more.
