Hi Birding-aussers
It's Lainie again, reporting from Eddystone Point, Mt William NP, where
I'm studying nesting success of shoreline-nesting birds. Things are
going very well. I've found close to 100 nests of various species,
including Pied and Sooty Oystercatchers, Hooded and Red-capped Plovers,
and Masked Lapwings. There have been many nest failures, mostly due to
predation, but there has also been quite a few successful hatchings.
The beaches are still very quiet for now, but there were a lot of people
on the weekend for the opening of the crayfish season. As long as they
stay in their boats and off the beaches and away form the nests I'm
happy.
This really is a beautiful place. There is a pair of White-bellied
Sea-eagles which I see quite frequently. They are spectacular to watch.
Bye for now,
Lainie.
