Hi Paul, Micheal & others,

I would also like to put my support behind the BOCA. I've been a member for
about 20 years during which time I've quite happily and voluntarily entered
that rabbit warren to "do my bit".
If I'm lucky, there might be a desk for me to use, which I drag into a
corner so that, when people walk past, I don't have to keep continually
pulling in my chair.
Maybe I've been kept in the dark, but I have yet to enjoy a latte. But a
cup of tea or coffee is readily available for anyone calling in for whatever
reason. Mind you, if there are two other people in the "kitchen" you may
have to wait your turn.
The contents of the library is a birders paradise available to all members
anywhere in Australia, just for the cost of postage, if you choose. Bird
books covering every continent, every subject. There's tapes covering just
about every bird in Australia, plus tapes for beginners that I can vouch
will enrich your bird knowledge. Magazines, CD's CD Roms. These are all
available to all members. That alone is worth being a member for.
The BOCA was in desperate need of expanding. It was bursting at the seams. I
have seen the volunteers working on getting the Bird Observer mailed out .
They definately deserve a latte.
But full credits must go to the regular staff. Their working conditions
would not be tolerated out in industry.
As Micheal said, we're all in this together. To promote and educate should
be all that we concern ourselves with.
Here's to good birding.
