Have just returned from a couple of hours walk in the heath and
open woodland in the northern suburbs of Sydney.
Started at Red Hill Reserve 33° 44.25´ S 151°
15.30´ E before moving to the remnant bush and weed-infested area
along Oxford Falls Rd 33° 43.675´ S 151° 14.110´
E. Had some excellent birding with some birds not frequently seen in
Sydney. The highlights for me were:
RED HILL RESERVE:
Brown Quail - 6
including a pair with two small young.
Bar-shouldered Dove - 1
Pheasant Coucal - 1-2
Dusky Woodsdwallow - 4
Double-barred Finch - quite common including birds probably
nesting.
OXFORD FALLS RD.
White-throated Gerygone - 2. The highlight here. This species is
uncommon in coastal Sydney.
Brown Cuckoo-dove
Other more common species seen in this small area at Oxford Falls
Rd included.
Fan-tailed Cuckoo
Sacred Kingfisher
Dollarbird
Eastern Spinebill
Golden Whistler
Leaden Flycatcher
Olive-backed Oriole
etc. etc.. Almost 50 species in total from a limited variety of
habitat.
Regards, Andy
.
