Hello Birders, As a matter of interest, does anyone know the current status of the Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) on Lord Howe Island? Morcombe (2000) p.428 refers to it as " common". Hutton in "Birds of Lord Howe Island - Past and Present" (1991) p.148 describes it as a "rare visitor". I know that Chaffinches were introduced to New Zealand long ago, and I assume that what Hutton says is still correct. Or has there been a population explosion on LHI? Regards, Colin Scouler.
