They have done exactly the same thing at my
place, whilst breeding adjacent to my lounge room (and no doubt many other
places). (I am in Canberra) It is quite typical behaviour, not strange at all.
Though it is strange to the bird - as in a mirror is a strange object to a bird
- and they don't understand it. It is attacking its reflection. The solution is
to cover the car mirror with a cloth and rearrange the light or bushes so that
it doesn't see its reflection in the window of the house.

wren - strange behaviour
hi
folks,
I've got a (male) superb fairy wren here whose behaviour is
somewhat baffling to me.
about 2 weeks ago, while sitting in my
office (I work at home) I heard a noise at the window. looking out I saw
this wren flying from the ferns - that are just a metre away - to the
window. it landed on the window pane (!), looked at his image, pecked on
the pane, flew on to the sill. then back to the fern, then back to the
window.
the same wren also (still!) messes up our cars. it lands on
the side mirror, looks at his image, pecks at it, flies off, returns,
etc.... (needless to say the side mirrors are an absolute
mess!!).
any ideas that could explain this behaviour?
many
thanks in advance, andrea :)
