In my posting revealing the identification of my Mystery Bird No 2, I made a
statement which was inappropriate and in fact erroneous.
I said: "Linda Cross (cautiously?) suggested Sharp-tailed while pointing out
another feature of that species: the rufous cap which can just be made out
(imagined?)
in the photo."
Linda did not imagine the rufous crown; she did, in fact note it from the photo
and also pointed out that "The creamy edges to each of the feathers also
helps to pick it."
I had studied the original slide looking for a rufous crown but was wondering if
I was
just imagining that I could see it.
In trying to be a bit 'journalsitic' I chose a poor turn of phrase which could
easily be interpreted to mean that Linda might have only imagined it as well.
I am sorry if I conveyed that impression.
I value Linda's expertise, especially in the area of wader identification.
Her contribution to wader studies is well known and respected.
