My daily drag from the front door to my car to start another day at the office had a pleasant change this morning. It was overcast and ready to storm and over the house were a flock of White Throated Needletails (Hirundapus caudacutus. Certainly a first for my house list, and not a bird I have seen in this area (Brisbane southern suburb. The great thing about it though was the incredible speed they were travelling at as they flew low right above me - and the clear whirrr as they sped past!
Some martins were also amongst them.
I drove down the road with a much bigger smile than usual!

Swifts and Needletails are great birds to watch!
