We should still be cautious. The 'black tarry fluid' found within the
gastrointestinal tract is perhaps an acid-haematin (blood mixed with gastric
acids). In the marine environment where fish are the staple, oils ain't
oils. The veterinarians here have organised testing for petrochemicals at
QLD DPI.
Until the traces of 'oil' in the degestive systems of these corpses is shown
to be petrochemical everything is speculation. Though I would add that our
vets are very, very good and they doubt petrochemicals will be found. I'll
post something when results come in.
