Hi all Birding can be quite a distressing hobby at times. Today in Pomona, I saw a rainbow lorikeet that had been hit by a car and was lying breast-down on the side of the road, very dead. Its mate flew down and jumped on its back and was bobbing its head up and down (like they do when playing or about to mate). It was very sad. The bird was eventually disturbed and flew off. Pomona is in Noosa shire SEQ. It reminded me of an historical account by a museum collector who shot a paradise parrot and watched its mate fly down and try to "wake" the dead bird up. The museum collector then shot the mate, too!
