We recently visited Gluepot for the first time. What a delight it was
and how proud BA should be of their achievements in setting up this
wonderful reserve.
Naturally the birds were the best part of our time there but sitting in
total silence for 4 1/2 hours watching a Malleefowl mound was quite
enjoyable - even if the bird never showed. We saw about 90 - 100 other
species at Gluepot, including a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, which we believe is
a new species for the Reserve, at least it is not on the list. More
information on birds seen and this particular sighting available on request.
After a very wet trip across the Hay plains (and a night in a motel) we had
great weather, warm days and cool nights.
On our return journey we spent a couple of nights at Pink Lakes and went in
search of the Blue-winged Parrots reported to be in the area earlier in
October but every bird we followed turned into a Blue-bonnet!!
A trip to the Mallee is a relaxing and rewarding experience which should be
on every birders agenda.
